Will Baby Boomers Embrace Technology in Retirement?

Embrace the Future Today!

Experts such as Geralyn Magan via studies suggest that baby boomers will want to live in their current house (possibly AVOIDING transitional housing) throughout their lives. However, studies suggest that these boomers are not taking initiative to prepare their dwelling to accommodate their wishes. Studies suggest the boomers feel upgrades are too costly, however, they are interested in how technology can help them age in place. Examples are:

1. Highly effective and energy efficient lighting

2. Low maintenance exteriors

3. Bedroom, bathroom, and laundry on the first floor

Neighborhoods with certain characteristics could attract the boomers who wish to age in place:

1. Having nearby grocery stores

2. Access to high speed internet

3. Nearby access to the hospital and doctors

Boomers are thinking about the “new” technologies, but time will tell if they embrace these emerging technologies such as:

1. Stovetops and ovens with active automatic shut offs

2. A single remote control that runs everything in the house

3. Driverless cars
