Will Baby Boomers Embrace Technology in Retirement?

Embrace the Future Today!
Experts such as Geralyn Magan via studies suggest that baby boomers will want to live in their current house (possibly AVOIDING transitional housing) throughout their lives. However, studies suggest that these boomers are not taking initiative to prepare their dwelling to accommodate their wishes. Studies suggest the boomers feel upgrades are too costly, however, they are interested in how technology can help them age in place. Examples are:
1.     Highly effective and energy efficient lighting
2.     Low maintenance exteriors
3.     Bedroom, bathroom, and laundry on the first floor
Neighborhoods with certain characteristics could attract the boomers who wish to age in place:
1.     Having nearby grocery stores
2.     Access to high speed internet
3.     Nearby access to the hospital and doctors
Boomers are thinking about the “new” technologies, but time will tell if they embrace these emerging technologies such as:
1.   Stovetops and ovens with active automatic shut offs
2.   A single remote control that runs everything in the house
3.   Driverless cars

Intro: Commercial Construction Survival Guide

Any commercial construction project is fraught with risk. You go out, dig a hole in the dirt or knock down walls and work to complete a vision for a new space.

Unfortunately the construction industry is plagued by budget overruns and change orders, delays, lawsuits, incomplete or sloppy architectural work, and poor quality and management of projects.

Many problems and cost increases can be minimized or avoided with proper planning. Knowing what warning signs to look for and strong communication can result in significant savings for any project.

Our strength as a firm is de-risking your project. By getting Shireman Construction involved early in the process and using our experience we can help you make adjustments to keep you out of lawsuits, and get your project delivered on time and within budget – with the high quality you expect.

As we work on developing our new Web, LinkedIn and Facebook sites, we are taking the knowledge and values we use daily and plan to develop a comprehensive resource center. This will be a sort of “survival guide” for anyone planning a commercial, industrial or institutional construction project.

We’re just getting started, but please visit our website (www.shiremanconstruction.com) and then click our “follow us” buttons for Facebook” and LinkedIn. We’ll be developing and sharing white papers, forms, links and valuable tips to help better prepare for your large or small construction projects. And it’s free whether or not you hire us.

New content will be posted weekly. Take a look. Give us your thoughts. Our goal is to provide content that will be helpful to you. If you have questions about something posted, don’t see information on a topic that you would like to know about or have your own tips to share, let us know.

Thanks for reading.

This is the second part of my takeaways from the Purdue – Radius Indiana economic development meeting I was lucky to attend on May 15 in French Lick.

The second half of the day involved three rapid fire panel discussions, which included state, Purdue officials, mayors and a business leader.

   Here are some highlights:
