     The groundbreaking ceremony for the new addition to the Scott County, Indiana Jail was held last month.
     This innovative design uses no modular steel cells and provides flexibility in its design to be able to expand.
     The owner’s site was tight on space, so a lower level basement was designed to utilize the land in its most efficient way.

We've kicked off a major commercial renovation construction project at Carriage Ford in Clarksville, IN.

As part of Ford's nationwide dealership build outs, the traditional look of the Carriage Ford building is getting a modern facelift and the showroom is being upgraded.

Shireman is also remodeling the parts department and service bays.

The goal is to phase the work so that Carriage Ford customers in the showroom aren't disturbed and the parts and service departments can stay fully functional.

For example, right now Shireman workers are systematically remodeling the 15 service bays around four at a time.

The traditional brick and dormer front facade is being removed to make way for the modern look. Steel and concrete foundations are being installed and the dormers are being taken down.

We hope to have the project wrapped up by the end of Winter. We'll post updates as we make progress with construction.

     Shireman Construction will be completing the Washington County, Indiana Jail in August 2014.
     The project is running about $200,000 under budget and all the owners contingency funds are still intact.
     The project consists of a new addition plus done interior renovations.
     The new housing pod is 26,100 SF. The new kitchen and laundry room is 3,075 SF.

High Speed Internet will be available soon in the small Southern Indiana town of Mauckport.

Construction is underway on wireless towers and a 3,000 square foot prefabricated community center. The center will have 10 computers with internet access for area residents to use. The center is expected to be open in early fall.


Q-Wireless received a $782,000 federal USDA grant to provide this service. The signal will be brought across the river from Brandenburg, KY.

The Harrison County Chamber of Commerce and the Harrison County Economic Development Corporation donated money and matching in kind contributions to the project.

"Basically this is a special program to bring high speed internet to rural communities that otherwise would never get service,"  Chamber director Lisa Long said. 

Long hopes this grant will be the first step in Q-Wireless expanding high speed internet across the southern part of the county and up into Corydon.

The Chamber also recently started an independent not-for-profit group, Connect Harrison County, to help find solutions to the county's high speed internet challenges. The board is filled with local business leaders and computer experts.

Progress is being made, as negotiations are underway with a different firm to try to bring another source of above-ground fiber to key business areas, Long said.
  

New Cell Block - Washington County Jail

Our jail addition construction project in Salem, Indiana is nearing completion.

The $9.3M addition and renovation added 204 beds to the existing jail. Washington County was under court order to expand the jail because of overcrowding.

Shireman is performing construction management for Washington County.  The project is currently under budget and ahead of schedule.

Next month the jail staff will begin to get trained on all the new equipment, which features state-of-art electronic monitoring, a new kitchen and laundry. The old jail portion may eventually be converted into work-release and community corrections space.
