SHIREMAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP - 2014
The
Shireman Family Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of Shireman Construction. The fund provides four scholarships annually
which are awarded to a talented graduating senior interested in a vocational career from each Harrison County high
school.
James L. Shireman, our founder and my grandfather, served as a community volunteer on the Prosser Board of Directors in
the 1970s. Being a mason by trade, Jim was very interested in
vocational careers and realized the importance of having and maintaining skilled people
in the workforce.
Grandpa Jim passed away in 2009 but his legacy lives on through the scholarship fund established by his children and the company. One example is that Joe Shireman's son, Daniel, completed a two year program in
construction/building trades, graduated with honors from Vincennes University
in the construction technology program, and is now working in the family
business.
The
Shireman Family scholarships are awarded to outstanding students who have
completed a two year program at Prosser and will pursue post-secondary education. The $1,500 scholarships were presented this week at the Prosser graduation ceremony by four of Jim Shireman's children - Becky Eckart, Mike Shireman, Mark Shireman and Joe Shireman. Jim's other son Dave sent his regards from his home in Texas.
